Abbots Leigh Boundary Wall

We have built a few boundary walls in Abbots Leigh over the past few years and were called back to the village once again.

Our client had wanted to remove a large Llilyandii hedge along the boundary of the property and replace this with a substantial stone wall offering privacy, shelter and to create a feature backdrop in the beautifully landscaped rear gardens.

The house built approx 20 years ago has a feature chimney stack at the front of house and it was agreed to copy the walling stone as best we could to add continuity between the front and back gardens.We managed to source a similar stone and the wall building began.

From the start it was agreed that traditional building methods would be employed so a mortar mix of Hydraulic lime and Chardstock sand was used as this gave a buff coloured, gritty textured finish.

The wall followed the slope of the terraced garden and was coped in Pennant flagstones along its length. Piers were built at either end and the wall is approx 21/2 feet thick, almost cannon ball proof!

Our clients had an array of lanterns dotted around the garden and we suggested they create some lantern shelves within the wall to illuminate the seating area and stonework during the evening.

This idea worked well and gave the wall a slightly medieval/Celtic look.

We have completed further works at this property including the gates in the last two pictures. These entrance gates were remodelled and piers built to hold them. A slightly hidden side entrance was created and the front of house improved considerably.

Under the pathway section of the website you will find an Indian sandstone cobbled pathway and Indian sandstone paving , completed late 2014.
